Terms updated: September 21, 2026. Website translation: September 21, 2026.
The Spanish version is the canonical text. These terms cover Kaoru and distinguish its code license from third-party services and assets.
1. Acceptance and scope
Installing or using Kaoru means accepting these terms and the privacy notice. If you disagree, do not use the application. Providers, websites, models, plugins, connected services and third-party assets retain their own terms.
2. What Kaoru provides
Kaoru is a desktop application for personal use with chat, memory, voice, proactivity and tools. It can read or change files, run commands, use Git/GitHub, open websites and applications, operate accessible interfaces, perform screenshot-linked visual clicks, send keyboard input and list or terminate processes. The current camera capability checks status or opens the camera application; it does not take photos or record video.
open_website normally uses your default browser and its existing session, only requesting a URL opening. Flows that inspect the DOM, search, click and verify use a separate managed Chromium profile.
3. Automation, permissions and risks
Kaoru applies allow, ask and deny rules, session approvals, path limits and, depending on the action, checkpoints and verification. Desktop capabilities can be disabled separately. You are responsible for reviewing settings and approval requests.
Autonomy mode does not itself expand system permissions. Even in action mode, automatic execution should remain covered by explicit rules. Sandboxing, validation, prompt-injection detection and rollback reduce risks but do not eliminate them.
4. Artificial intelligence
Responses and tool decisions may depend on your configured LLM provider. Generative models can make mistakes, omit context, fabricate information or misread interfaces. Independently verify medical, legal, financial, security-related and irreversible decisions.
Provider and model catalogs change. External provider terms, pricing, limits and policies apply. Local endpoints can avoid sending prompts to a remote provider, but TTS, web, Google, GitHub and updates can still connect when used.
5. Accounts, credentials and third parties
- Use only accounts and keys you own or are authorized to use.
- Choose minimum necessary scopes for Google Workspace and GitHub, and revoke unused access.
- Do not share configuration files. Without an OS keychain, some credentials may remain in local files readable by your account.
- Websites, Microsoft Edge TTS, LLM providers, Google, GitHub, models.dev and plugins are third-party services or components. Kaoru does not control their availability or policies.
- Review extension origins, dependencies and permissions. Plugins may process context and execute code within the access you grant.
6. Permitted use
Use Kaoru lawfully and only with authorized devices, accounts, repositories and data. Do not use it for surveillance without consent, system intrusion, access-control bypass, malware distribution, rights infringement, harassment or unlawful processing of personal information. Organizational policies also apply on work or school devices.
7. Code, assets and intellectual property
The original source code is available under the repository’s MIT license. Preserve the copyright and permission notice when distributing covered copies. The license grants no rights to third-party Live2D models, characters, names, trademarks, music or artwork.
March 7th assets belong to Cognosphere Pte. Ltd./HoYoverse and are included as unofficial, non-commercial fan content. Kaoru is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by those entities. For redistribution, verify your rights and replace or exclude those assets. The code’s MIT license does not authorize their commercial use.
8. Warranties and liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Kaoru is provided “as is” without warranties of availability, accuracy, fitness, absolute security or freedom from errors. You remain responsible for reviewing outputs, backing up data, protecting credentials and choosing authorized actions and transfers.
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect damages or loss of data, work, income or account access arising from use, inability to use, configuration, provider responses or third-party components. Nothing excludes non-waivable rights or liability that cannot legally be limited.
9. Age and jurisdiction
Kaoru is intended for adults aged 18 or the applicable age of majority. These terms are governed by applicable Mexican law, without prejudice to mandatory protections in your jurisdiction. You may try to resolve a dispute through the contact channel before starting proceedings.
10. Changes and contact
These terms may change as capabilities, dependencies or legal requirements evolve. The date identifies the version; material changes will be communicated in the repository or application where reasonably possible.
